Patrick Joyce is a Democratic State Senator representing Illinois's 40th Senate District, which includes areas in the South Suburbs, Kankakee, and surrounding communities. A fourth-generation farmer and small business owner, he operates a composting business in Essex, where he has lived for over 24 years with his wife, Rita. They are parents of three children and grandparents to two granddaughters; tragically, they lost their daughter Katelyn to leukemia in 2011, inspiring Joyce's advocacy for health care improvements. He grew up in Reddick, Illinois, and has deep roots in agribusiness and conservation, including leading Kankakee River cleanup efforts and serving 19 years on the Kankakee County Farm Bureau Board.
Notable achievements and positions include championing the Southland Reactivation Act to revitalize deprived properties, protecting clean drinking water, suspending the gas tax to support working families, advocating for reproductive health care, and promoting smaller class sizes in education. He leads Team "Yes! I am Katelyn Friend!" for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, raising over $200,000, and focuses on making health care more navigable, ensuring affordable water, and supporting law enforcement.
