Biography
Senator Pat Pettey is a Democrat representing District 6 in the Kansas Senate. She is currently serving her third term, having been elected in 2012, and holds the position of Senate Minority Whip. A retired public educator and community leader, she is a mother and grandmother committed to public education and local issues. Notable achievements include the League of Kansas Municipalities Excellence in Government Award in 2008 and the KS Library Association Presidential Award for Library Advocate in 2015. She previously served in the Kansas House from 1993 to 1996 and on the Unified Government of Wyandotte County Commission for the 6th District.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduate of Turner High School ; Bachelor’s and Master’s of Science degrees in Education from the University of Kansas; Administration Certification from Emporia State University.
- Professional Experience: Educator in Turner School District 202 from 1968 until retirement in 2006; leadership roles included Coordinator for At-Risk Preschool, President of KNEA-Turner USD 202, and lifetime member of Kansas PTA; received Oak Grove Elementary Teacher of the Year Award in 2000.
- Political Experience: Kansas House ; Wyandotte County Commission, 6th District; Kansas Senate, District 6 ; Senate Minority Whip ; active in community boards such as Homeless Continuum of Care, Mayor’s Council Against Domestic Violence, and WYCO Library Board.
