Biography
Pamela J. Hunter is a Democrat representing New York's 128th Assembly District, which includes portions of Syracuse and surrounding towns like Salina, DeWitt, and Onondaga, encompassing urban, suburban, rural areas, and the Onondaga Nation. She has served as Speaker Pro Tempore of the New York State Assembly since 2025, presiding over legislative sessions, and is the only female veteran in the state legislature. Notable achievements include chairing the Assembly Subcommittee on Women Veterans, sponsoring anti-poverty laws like the Driver’s License Suspension Reform Act, securing property tax credits for low-income households with flood insurance, advancing "Buy Now, Pay Later" credit product licensure in the 2025 Assembly budget, and supporting firefighter recruitment and oncology screenings. A decorated U.S. Army veteran, she lives in Syracuse with her husband and rescue dog, and has extensive community involvement with organizations like Syracuse Community Health Center, Catholic Charities, and Meals on Wheels.
