Biography

Senator Pam Helming

Pamela A. Helming was born on February 18, 1962, and is an American politician from New York. She resides in Canandaigua, New York, where she has lived with her husband, Gary Helming, for over thirty years. They have raised two children in the area. Helming's professional background has focused on individuals with developmental disabilities, including those residing in group homes.

Education

Helming is a graduate of Hiram College.

Political Experience

Helming is a Republican and serves as the New York State Senator for District 54, representing Ontario, Wayne, and Livingston counties, as well as the Monroe County towns of Chili, Wheatland, Riga, Rush, and Mendon.

She began her political career in 2010 when she was elected as a town councilperson in Canandaigua. In 2014, she was elected Canandaigua Town Supervisor, advancing to the county level of government.

Since 2017, Helming has served in the New York State Senate. She has been consistently re-elected in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024, each time receiving over 60% of the vote. In the State Senate, she holds the position of Ranking Member of the Insurance Committee and serves as Republican Conference Chair.
