Biography
Overture Walker represents South Carolina Senate District 22 . Born September 30, 1980, in Sumter, South Carolina, he is a husband, father, small business owner, and public servant who rose from poverty with family support, including from his mother, grandfather , and grandmother. He co-owns Stoney & Walker, LLC, offering legal services in Columbia and Charleston, and is noted for restoring public trust in Richland County government, achieving a Triple-A credit rating, no tax increases in six years, and attracting major economic development like Scout Motors' $2 billion plant.
Education and Political Experience
Walker graduated from the University of South Carolina and its School of Law , interning for Democratic Governor Jim Hodges and studying abroad at the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn in London. His career includes public defender in Richland County, city prosecutor and attorney in Columbia, and Municipal Court Judge . Elected to Richland County Council District 8 in 2020, he chaired it in 2022-2023. In 2024, he won the Democratic primary runoff and unopposed general election to the Senate, becoming the second African-American senator from District 22; he serves on Judiciary, Transportation, Corrections & Penology, and Rules committees.
