Biography
Osman Salahuddin is a Democrat serving as Assistant Majority Whip in the Washington House of Representatives, representing District 48, Position 1. This district includes parts of Bellevue, Redmond, and Kirkland, as well as all of Clyde Hill, Medina, Yarrow Point, and Hunts Point. A Redmond native and son of immigrants , he was appointed to the House on January 7, 2025, to replace Vandana Slatter and won election on November 4, 2025, with 68.24% of the vote against Republican Dennis Ellis. Prior roles include Redmond City Council , communications and community engagement manager for King County Councilmember Sarah Perry, researcher at UW Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, and service on non-profit boards like the Transportation Choices Coalition.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a B.S. in neurobiology from the University of Washington, where he served as Student Body President, representing over 45,000 students on issues like equity, international student health insurance, and affordable housing. Completed K-12 in Lake Washington School District public schools.
- Political Experience: Elected to Redmond City Council in 2023; appointed to Washington House in 2025; currently Assistant Majority Whip; worked in management at a medical device research consulting firm and for King County Council; contributed to boards including LWSD Career and Technical Education Committee and Asian Pacific Islander Americans for Civic Empowerment.
