Biography
Nily Rozic is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly representing the 25th District in northeast Queens, including Flushing, Fresh Meadows, Bayside, Douglaston, Queensboro Hill, Hillcrest, and Oakland Gardens. Born in Jerusalem on March 15, 1986, and raised in Queens, she was elected in 2012 as the youngest woman in the state legislature and the first woman to represent the 25th District. Notable achievements include chairing the Assembly’s Committee on Consumer Affairs and Protection, which addresses fraud, data privacy, and pricing practices; previously chairing the Subcommittee on Emerging Workforce and the Task Force on Women’s Issues; authoring laws for workplace flexibility and state employee schedules; and advocating for pay equity, entrepreneurship, immigrant communities, and environmental revitalization. She has been recognized as a Rising Star by City & State, one of The Jewish Week's 36 Under 36, and selected for the Governing Institute’s Women in Government Leadership Program as New York's sole representative.
Education and Political Experience
Rozic earned her undergraduate degree from New York University’s College of Arts and Science while working in Albany. Before her election, she served as Chief of Staff to Assemblymember Brian Kavanagh, protecting senior programs, expanding parkland and bus services, and advancing election reforms like public financing. She was also a member of Community Board 8 and the Townsend Harris High School Alumni Association. In the Assembly, she has held roles such as Chair of the Assembly's Office on State-Federal Relations in 2020 and Secretary of the Assembly Majority Conference.
