Nikki Lucas , New York State Assembly District 60
Nikki I. Lucas, born June 20, 1970, is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly representing the 60th District in Brooklyn, including East New York and Starrett City, where she has resided for over 30 years. She assumed office on February 17, 2022, after winning a special election, and serves as an advocate for overlooked community voices, implementing programs to uplift Brooklyn residents. Previously, she worked as a management consultant, operated a music store in East New York, and served as a recruiter for the U.S. Census Bureau from 2007 to 2011; she ran unsuccessfully for New York City Council in 2017. Notable positions include membership on the Committees on Aging, Economic Development, Job Creation, Commerce and Industry, Energy, Housing, Health, and Labor, as well as the Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic & Asian Legislative Caucus, Legislative Women's Caucus, and Puerto Rican/Hispanic Task Force.
Education and Political Experience
Lucas earned a degree in Liberal Arts from Borough of Manhattan Community College and studied Policy Studies and Conflict Resolution at Syracuse University. Introduced to civic involvement at age 8 through her community-active parents, she has engaged with leaders across city, state, and federal levels, progressing from activism to elected office with a focus on community betterment.
