Biography
Nicole Uhre-Balk is a Democratic member of the South Dakota House of Representatives, representing District 32 in Rapid City, which includes parts of downtown, north Rapid City, West Boulevard Avenue, and Robbinsdale areas. Born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, she serves as Minority Whip and is the first Democrat to represent her district in 18 years. In the 2024 election, she won with 3,326 votes, narrowly defeating Republican incumbent Steve Duffy , and now serves alongside him. Her platform emphasizes education reform, including revising school funding, raising teacher salaries, and promoting career-ready skills.
Education and Political Experience
An educator by profession, Nicole Uhre-Balk announced her candidacy in March 2024 as a newcomer to elected office. She identifies as LGBTQ+ and uses feminine pronouns. As a new member , she holds the position of Minority Whip in the House.
