Nicole Akins Boyd is a Republican state senator representing District 9 in the Mississippi State Senate, which includes most of Lafayette County and part of Panola County. She assumed office on January 7, 2020, after winning the 2019 general election with 58.2% of the vote against Democrat Kevin Frye. Notable achievements include chairing the bipartisan Senate Study Group on Women, Children, and Families , receiving the Mississippi Thrive! Champion for Children Award and Health Care Leadership Award from Community Health Centers , and holding leadership roles such as Chairman of the Universities and Colleges Committee and Vice-Chairman of Medicaid.
