Biography
Nick Hinrichsen is a Democrat representing Senate District 3 in Colorado, which includes Pueblo County. He serves as Senate Majority Whip, Vice Chair of the Business, Labor & Technology Committee, and a member of the Agriculture & Natural Resources and Judiciary Committees. An Army veteran, he fought in the Iraq War, served in NATO peacekeeping operations in Kosovo, and was with the Colorado National Guard. Hinrichsen was appointed to the State Senate in February 2022 to succeed former Senate President Leroy Garcia and was reelected in November 2022. Previously, he worked in Pueblo's logistics industry and as Operations Supervisor for Pueblo Transit, where he developed Colorado's first public transit agency-wide pandemic response plan in February 2020 and helped fund free K-12 student rides. He lives in south Pueblo with his wife Bri and son Noel.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Master's in Public Administration from CU Denver while raising a child with developmental challenges.
- Political Experience: Appointed to Colorado State Senate District 3 on February 28, 2022; reelected in 2022; current Senate Majority Whip; sponsors bills in the 2026 Regular Session, including 16 Senate bills.
