Senator Nick Charles

Nicholas Patrick Charles II is a Democratic state senator representing District 25 in Prince George's County, Maryland. Born in Washington, DC on December 16, 1982, he has built a career focused on equity, small business advocacy, and community service. He serves on the Judicial Proceedings Committee and the Joint Committee on Children, Youth, and Families in the state senate.

Charles became a member of the Maryland State Senate on December 5, 2023, after serving five years in the Maryland House of Delegates. In his current role, he continues to advocate for small and minority businesses as a Senate member of the Maryland Procurement Improvement Council ** and serves on the **Maryland Entertainment Council, which studies recommendations for Maryland's film, television, and entertainment industry.

Beyond his legislative work, Charles serves on multiple community boards including the Greater Baden Medical Services Board, Community Legal Services of Prince George's County Board, and the Children's Rights Fund, reflecting his commitment to healthcare access, legal services, and family advocacy.

Education

Before his appointment to the state senate, Charles served in the Maryland House of Delegates from January 2019 to December 2023, representing District 25 and over 119,000 constituents. He was first elected on November 6, 2018, and re-elected to a second term on November 6, 2022.
