Nathan Manning

Current Position: State Senator

Nathan Manning was born on January 13, 1982, and is a lifelong resident of Lorain County. He is the son of state Representative Gayle Manning and former state Representative Jeffrey Manning. Manning is married to Jennifer and resides in North Ridgeville.

He is active in his community through involvement with the North Ridgeville Chamber of Commerce, Lorain County Bar Association, Lorain County Historical Society, and serves as Vice President of the North Ridgeville Republican Club.

Education

Manning graduated from North Ridgeville High School and earned a B.A. in Political Science from Denison University and a Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School.

Political Experience

Manning began his career as an assistant prosecutor for the city of North Ridgeville before entering elected office. He currently works as a partner at Manning Law LLC .

Ohio House of Representatives : Manning served two terms in the Ohio House, where he worked on "Kevin's Law," which expanded emergency prescription refills for life-saving medications. He also helped establish Aortic Aneurysm Awareness Day on February 13 to honor his late father.

Ohio Senate : Manning has represented the 13th Senate District since 2019, which includes all of Lorain County and portions of Huron County. He currently serves as Chair of the Judiciary Committee and is a member of the Addiction and Community Revitalization, Finance, and Financial Institutions, Insurance and Technology committees.

Notable Achievements and Positions

Manning has championed bipartisan legislation on criminal justice reform, voting rights protection, and vulnerable population safeguards:

  • Senate Bill 288: Led the effort to pass major criminal justice reform legislation that enhances public safety and provides pathways for second chances, earning him the Alliance of Safety and Justice Champion of the Year award and the Ohio Community Corrections Association's President's Award
  • Senate Bill 100: Sponsored legislation holding people accountable for using electronic tracking devices for nefarious purposes
  • Anti-SLAPP Legislation: Carried legislation creating a judicial process to prevent meritless lawsuits that intimidate individuals from exercising constitutional rights

Manning is described as politically moderate. He has advocated for phasing out Ohio's income tax over the next decade and called for the repeal of Ohio House Bill 6, which provided subsidies for nuclear power plants. He voted against a bill banning gender-affirming care for minors and restricting transgender women from participating in women's sports, being the only Republican Ohio Senator to do so. His abortion positions reflect alignment with exceptions for rape, incest, and danger to the life of the mother.

Manning has received multiple awards including the Ohio Domestic Violence Network Leadership in Policy Award and the Visionary Voice Award from the Ohio Alliance to End Sexual Violence.
