Biography

Nathan W. Biah is a Democratic representative for District 3 in Providence, Rhode Island. Elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives in November 2020, he serves on the House Finance Committee, House Education Committee, and House Innovation and Technology Committee. Notable achievements include advocating for education aid in the 2024 state budget, sponsoring laws to support graduate medical education, update Providence public schools, tax nonprofit-leased properties , establish the Rhode Island Hope Scholarship pilot program , require FAFSA notices in schools , fund school resource officers , and promote state surplus property for housing . He was named a fellow in the National Conference of State Legislatures Early Childhood Program and serves on the Office of Postsecondary Commissioner Advisory Committee. Born December 4, 1971, in Monrovia, Liberia, he fled civil war at age 20 by walking nearly 90 miles to safety, later settling in Providence.
