Biography
Natalie S. Murdock is a Democratic state senator representing District 20 in the North Carolina Senate, which includes all of Chatham County and part of Durham County. Elected in 2020, she is the first Black woman under 40—and the youngest Black woman—to serve in the North Carolina Senate. Before entering the Senate, she served as a Durham County Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor, founded Attal Strategies as principal and chief strategist to build partnerships between minority/rural communities and government/nonprofits/corporations, worked as Deputy Director of Communications for the North Carolina Department of Justice, served as traveling press secretary for Deborah Ross' U.S. Senate campaign, and was director of marketing and communications for GoTriangle regional transit agency. She comes from a family of advocates, including her grandmother who participated in the Greensboro sit-ins etched in the Civil Rights Museum. Notable achievements include co-chairing the North Carolina Future Caucus, serving as Deputy Leader for Communications in the NC Senate Democratic Caucus, and advocating for affordable housing, education equality, healthcare access, soil/water conservation, and economic development for farmers and rural communities.
