Biography
Amy "Murri" Briel is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives, representing the 76th District. Elected in 2024 after defeating Republican Liz Bishop, she succeeded former Representative Lance Yednock, for whom she served as chief of staff, and assumed office on January 8, 2025. Born on December 5, 1974, in LaSalle County in the Illinois Valley, she was raised by a Korean War veteran father who was a retired IBEW electrician and a mother from an Irish immigrant farming family; she identifies as proudly neurodivergent and LGBTQ+. Briel lives near Ottawa, Illinois, on her family farm with her husband and three children. Notable achievements include her prior 2018 congressional primary run for Illinois' 16th District, work as a caseworker for domestic violence and sexual assault survivors, public strategy consulting for various referendums and organizations, and focus on issues like rural growth, childcare access, environmental protection, and mental healthcare.
