Biography

Morgan J. Rielly is a Democratic state representative for House District 127 in Maine, representing the city of Westbrook in Cumberland County. First elected in 2020, he is currently serving his third term after winning the Democratic primary and running unopposed in the general election. A resident of Westbrook, where he grew up, Rielly works as an author/writer and oyster farm hand in Casco Bay. Notable achievements include sponsoring the Maine Climate Corps, a volunteer program addressing climate change at the local level that has served as a model for national and other state initiatives like the American Climate Corps; creating the Maine Service Fellows program; and receiving the State Service Leadership Award from America’s Service Commissions in 2021. He co-founded and co-chairs the ASC’s State Service Caucus. Rielly also advocates for protections for working waterfronts, aquaculture, and modernizing Maine's part-time legislature. He serves as Chair of Engrossed Bills and a member of the Environment and Natural Resources Committee.

Education and Political Experience

  • Education: B.A. in Government & Legal Studies and Religion from Bowdoin College . While in high school at Westbrook High School, he served in leadership roles.
  • Political Experience: Elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, utilizing Maine’s clean elections program. Previously a visiting fellow at an ocean policy think tank. Campaigning began after his district's prior representative reached term limits.
