Biography
Morgan Meyer is a Republican representative for Texas House District 108, which includes parts of Dallas such as Downtown, Uptown, East Dallas, Preston Hollow, North Dallas, Lake Highlands, Lakewood, University Park, and Highland Park. Born on August 8, 1974, in Lubbock, Texas, he resides in University Park with his wife Keana and their three children: Katharine, Elizabeth, and Asher. An attorney by profession, Meyer is a partner at Wick Phillips and has been involved in community activism, particularly advocating against child trafficking and supporting women escaping abusive relationships. The family attends Highland Park United Methodist Church.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.A. in Political Science and History from Southern Methodist University ; J.D. from Washington and Lee University School of Law .
- Political Experience: First elected in 2014 , currently in his sixth term. Serves as Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee and House Administration Committee. Previously chaired The July 2025 Flooding Events, General Investigating Committee and served on committees including Energy Resources, Insurance, Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence, Public Education, and State Affairs.
Notable Achievements and Positions
- Spearheaded the largest tax cut in Texas history as Ways & Means Chair, including SB 2 , delivering $18 billion in property tax relief by compressing school district tax rates and increasing state education funding share to over 50%.
- Key role in HB 3 , a transformative school finance bill providing hundreds of millions to District 108 schools via increased per-student funding, Pre-K, dyslexia programs, and reduced recapture.
- Authored comprehensive anti-trafficking laws expanding definitions and easing prosecutions; awarded the “Protect Her Award” from New Friends New Life and “Guardian of Small Business” by the National Federation of Small Businesses.
- Vocal leader on fiscal responsibility, public education, and community safety.
