Biography
Monique Priestley is a Democratic Vermont State Representative for Orange-2 district, serving since 2023. She focuses on consumer protection, technology policy, economic development, and rural issues, with notable roles as Clerk of the House Committee on Commerce and Economic Development and member of the Joint Information Technology Oversight Committee.
Monique Priestley grew up near Lake Armington in Piermont, New Hampshire, across from Bradford, Vermont, where her mother instilled values of community service and her father, a sign painter and muralist, emphasized hard work and art. She founded and serves as Executive Director of The Space On Main, a nonprofit community workspace in Bradford established in 2017, offering programs in business planning and youth STEM. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she worked as Vermont COVID Business Recovery Project Manager for the Center for Women & Enterprise . A dedicated community leader, she has held positions including Justice of the Peace, school district moderator, Rotarian, and board chair for organizations like Green Mountain Economic Development Corporation and Vital Communities; she has served on over two dozen municipal and nonprofit boards. Her notable achievements include Cohase Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year , Vital Communities’ Heroes & Leaders , Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Planning Commission’s Volunteer of the Year , and Vermont Business Magazine's Rising Stars . In the legislature, she serves on key committees, the NCSL Task Force on Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity & Privacy, the Vermont Rural Caucus as Tripartisan Co-Chair, and as a legislative trustee for the University of Vermont; she prioritizes data privacy, AI, right-to-repair, and the future of work.
