Biography
Molly Cook is a Democratic Senator representing Texas Senate District 15, serving since 2024 as an emergency room nurse, grassroots organizer, and the first woman and first out LGBTQ+ member in that role.
Molly Cook, a sixth-generation Texan born and raised in Houston, won a special election in May 2024 to become the first woman to represent Senate District 15, previously held by John Whitmire for 40 years; she then secured the Democratic nomination by defeating State Representative Jarvis Johnson. As the only Democratic medical professional in the Texas Senate, she brings her experience as an ER nurse and community organizer to advocate for health, safety, and equitable policies, including expanding Medicare. Notable achievements include leading the Fair for Houston campaign, which collected over 23,000 signatures, knocked on 150,000 doors, mobilized 250 volunteers, and passed Prop B by a 30-point margin to improve multimodal transportation; she was recognized by the Houston Chronicle as a transportation leader. She serves on committees including Administration, Health & Human Services, and Local Government, with her term up for election in 2028.
