Biography

Mitchell Scoggins is a Republican member of the Georgia House of Representatives representing District 14, which includes portions of Bartow and Cherokee counties. Born and raised in Bartow County, Georgia, near the Pine Log area and Rydal, he grew up on a poultry and cattle farm as the son of Harris and Jane Scoggins, with siblings Mike, Mark, Myron, and Melissa. He began his career in the early 1980s as a firefighter in Bartow County, later worked for the Bartow County Tax Commissioner for five years, and served as Probate Judge from 1989 to 2016, winning seven unopposed terms before retiring. Married to Donna Wade for over 40 years, they have two sons—Kurt and Blake —and three grandchildren: Sophia, Sela Kate, and Warren. Notable positions include Chairman of the Special Rules Committee, with membership on Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight, Code Revision, Higher Education, Judiciary, Reapportionment and Redistricting, and Transportation committees. He was sworn in on January 14, 2019.
