Biography
Mitch Whitaker
Mitchum Addison Whitaker was born on May 12, 1993, in Letcher County, Kentucky. He is a Republican member of the Kentucky House of Representatives, representing the 94th district, which encompasses Letcher County and parts of Harlan and Pike counties. He assumed office on January 1, 2025, succeeding Jacob Justice, who chose not to seek reelection. Whitaker won the 2024 general election unopposed with 13,492 votes.
A resident of Fleming-Neon, Kentucky, Whitaker has been actively involved in his community beyond his legislative role. He serves as city attorney of Fleming-Neon and has held leadership positions including chair of the Letcher County Republican Party and president of the local Mother's Against Drunk Driving advisory board.
Education
Whitaker earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky. He continued his education at the J. David Rosenberg College of Law at the University of Kentucky, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 2021. During his time in law school, he demonstrated leadership by serving as president of the Appalachian Law Caucus, an at-large representative of the Student Bar Association, and a graduate senator-at-large of the Student Government Association.
Political Experience
Since graduating from law school in 2021, Whitaker has worked as an attorney at Hicks & Funfsinn, PLLC, where he specializes in litigation. His transition to public service culminated in his election to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 2024, where he currently serves on multiple standing committees and interim joint committees.
