Biography
Mitch Gore is a Democratic member of the Indiana House of Representatives, representing District 89 in Central Indiana, which includes portions of Marion County on Indianapolis' East and Southeast sides. A lifelong resident of Indianapolis, he is a community advocate, small business operator, and public safety professional, currently serving as a Captain with the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, where he oversees construction of the new Community Justice Center and promotes compassionate policing to build community trust.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Product of public schools; attended the University of Indianapolis while managing his family’s Washington Square restaurant during the Great Recession.
- Professional Background: Worked in community development for the City of Indianapolis, focusing on eliminating neighborhood blight, demolishing unsafe buildings, and addressing slumlords. Previously operated his family’s restaurant.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Indiana House in 2020. Serves as ranking member on the House Courts and Criminal Code Committee, and on the Employment, Labor, and Pensions Committee and Veterans Affairs and Public Safety Committee. Also an Assistant Minority Whip.
- Notable Achievements and Positions: Authored legislation to reform law enforcement, combat gun violence, and support veterans. Voted to reduce healthcare costs, increase teacher pay and student achievement, and lower property taxes. Advocates rethinking mental health and addiction treatment to prioritize jail space for violent offenders.
