Biography
Mike Volz is a Republican serving his fifth term as State Representative for Washington's 6th Legislative District , representing parts of Spokane County including Airway Heights, Medical Lake, Cheney, the West Plains, Fairchild Air Force Base, and north Spokane areas near Whitworth University. A U.S. Army veteran and licensed Certified Public Accountant , he currently serves as Chief Deputy Treasurer for Spokane County, managing over $9 billion in cash transactions and a $1 billion investment portfolio. Notable positions include membership on the House Committees on Technology, Economic Development & Veterans; Consumer Protection & Business; and Transportation.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor of Business degree with concentrations in accounting and finance from Eastern Washington University; Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Management of Information Systems from Gonzaga University. Certified in Lean managerial concepts; former adjunct professor at Whitworth University teaching accounting and management courses since 2013.
- Political Experience: Elected to the Washington House of Representatives in 2017. Prior professional roles include Assistant Director of Finance at Spokane Transit, controller for a music company, financial analyst and cost accountant for a medical service company, and dock foreman for a freight company; spent much of his career in the Spokane County Treasurer’s Office, advancing from accountant to Senior Finance Manager before his current role.
