Biography
Michael J. Venezia is a Democratic Assembly Member representing District 34 in the New Jersey General Assembly, which includes the municipalities of Belleville, Bloomfield, East Orange, Glen Ridge, Nutley, and Orange in Essex County. A third-generation Bloomfield resident, he was first elected as Councilman at Large in 2011 and became Mayor of Bloomfield in 2013 at age 31, the youngest in the township's history; he has served in that role since 2014 and resides there with his wife Laura and daughters Ella and Sophia. Notable achievements include stabilizing property taxes, attracting job-creating developments, enhancing police and fire resources , purchasing 13 acres for wetlands restoration and recreation instead of townhomes, and receiving the 2018 NJMMA Elected Officials Award. He currently serves as Majority Whip and previously held roles such as Director of Human Resources for Essex County Schools of Technology, Confidential Aide to the Essex County Administrator , Projects Director for the United States Senate , and Field Organizer for John Kerry's presidential campaign ; he also advised Senator Frank Lautenberg and Rep. Bill Pascrell.
