Biography
Mike Tannousis is a Republican/Conservative Assembly Member representing District 64 in the New York State Assembly, covering parts of Southern Brooklyn and the East Shore of Staten Island. Elected on November 3, 2020, he serves as the ranking member of the Judiciary Committee and Chairman of the Staten Island Republican Party. A lifelong Staten Islander born on December 8, 1983, he is the son of Greek immigrants displaced by conflict in Cyprus. Notable achievements include successfully prosecuting high-profile cases as a former Assistant District Attorney, such as a double murder in Dongan Hills and the Ramada Inn murders retrial. He has been recognized in the Staten Island Power 100 and Brooklyn Power 100, and received the Cypriot Young Professional Award in 2022. Tannousis prioritizes victims' rights, bail reform changes, transportation, education, and property rights.
Education and Political Experience
Education:
Graduated from Public School 23, Intermediate School 24, and Monsignor Farrell High School. Earned a bachelor's degree from SUNY Binghamton and a Juris Doctor from Pace Law School .
Political Experience:
- Began public service in 2006 as an aide to New York City Council Minority Leader James Oddo.
- Served as Counsel to City Council Member Joseph Borelli.
- Assistant District Attorney in Bronx DA's Office and Richmond County DA's Office from 2016 .
- Board member, Cyprus-US Chamber of Commerce; delegate, Cyprus Federation of America.
- Currently a partner at IX Legal in the Litigation Division.
