Biography

Mike Simpson is a Republican U.S. Representative for Idaho's 2nd Congressional District, which he has served since 1999. Born on September 8, 1950, in Burley, Idaho, and raised in Blackfoot, he is a moderate Republican known for supporting DACA, work visas for farmworkers, and bipartisan efforts like the January 6 commission. Notable achievements include chairing the House Interior and Environment Subcommittee on Appropriations, advocating for forest management reforms treating wildfires as natural disasters, pushing to split the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, and securing funding for Idaho priorities like energy and national parks.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Graduated from Utah State University; earned a DMD from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. Practiced dentistry at the family dental practice in Blackfoot with his father and uncle.
• Political Experience: Elected to Blackfoot City Council in 1980; served in the Idaho House of Representatives from 1984 to 1998, including as Speaker from 1992 to 1998. Currently in his fourteenth term in Congress, serving on the House Appropriations Committee, including as Ranking Member of the Energy and Water Development Subcommittee.
