Biography
Mike Reilly represents New York's 62nd Assembly District, which includes the South Shore of Staten Island and parts of Mid-Island. Born January 30, 1973, in Staten Island, he was elected to the New York State Assembly on November 6, 2018, succeeding Ronald Castorina, and has won re-election, including unopposed in 2020. He resides in Eltingville with his wife Mary, three children, and their dog Jack.
Reilly has dedicated his career to public service, serving in the United States Army Reserve and as a New York City Police Lieutenant for 12 years, retiring from Brooklyn’s 90th Precinct. Notable achievements include advocating for traffic safety around school zones, restoring yellow school bus service for 7th and 8th graders, establishing NYC DOT Neighborhood Slow Zones, and securing funding for the My Brother’s Keeper initiative on Staten Island. His priorities focus on education, transportation, opioid crisis response, law enforcement support, and public safety.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: BS in Legal Studies from John Jay College.
- Political Experience: President of Community Education Council 31 from 2014 to 2018, where he improved school accountability and transparency. Currently serves as Ranking Minority Member of the Assembly Committee on Cities and member of Committees on Codes, Education, Governmental Employees, Higher Education, and Housing. Supports enhanced school security with retired police officers and the Divide NY plan to reorganize the state.
