Mike Porfirio is a Democratic member of the Illinois Senate representing the 11th District, which includes all or parts of Bedford Park, Berwyn, Bridgeview, Brookfield, Burbank, Cicero, Countryside, Hodgkins, Justice, La Grange, La Grange Park, North Riverside, Riverside, Summit, and Chicago neighborhoods such as Ashburn, Clearing, Garfield Ridge, West Elsdon, and West Lawn. Born and raised in Bridgeview in a working-class family and union household, he has lived in the 11th District his entire life, with family roots there for over 75 years. He assumed office on January 11, 2023, succeeding Steven Landek. Porfirio is married to Alana, and they have two daughters, Gabriella and Jacqueline, along with two dogs. Notable achievements include securing over $20 million for infrastructure improvements in the 11th District, supporting the Northern Illinois Transit Authority Act for public transit investment, and advocating for veteran suicide prevention. He is recognized as a coalition builder, community organizer, and problem solver focused on economic development and opportunities for working families.

Education and Political Experience

• Education: Graduated from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, in 2004; attended Purdue University and the University of Illinois.
• Military Service: Served in the United States Navy from 2004–2010 on active duty ; deployed for Operation Iraqi Freedom on Iraqi oil terminal patrols, Pakistani earthquake relief, and as Senior US Military Advisor to the Afghan National Police during a NATO mission in Afghanistan, earning the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
• Political Roles: Appointed Cook County representative to the Justice-Willow Springs Water Commission in 2011; elected to the Bedford Park District in 2013; Illinois State Senator for the 11th District since 2023.
