Senator Michael O. Moore represents the Second Worcester District in the Massachusetts Senate, which includes the towns of Auburn, Grafton, Leicester, Millbury, Shrewsbury, and Upton, as well as specific precincts in Northbridge and wards in Worcester. Born on January 17, 1963, in Millbury, Massachusetts, where he was raised, Moore has served as state senator since January 2009, succeeding Edward M. Augustus Jr., after winning election in November 2008 with 60% of the vote. He is married to Jennifer Moore and has two children.

Education and Political Experience

Moore attended Quinsigamond Community College and Western New England College . He graduated from the Waltham Police Academy in 1982.

His political career began with election to the Millbury Board of Selectmen in 2001, where he served three terms until 2008, overseeing major economic development like The Shoppes at Blackstone Valley, which added $1 million annually to the town's commercial tax base. From 2005-2008, he was Assistant Deputy Superintendent at the Worcester County Sheriff’s Office, leading programs such as the TRIAD senior safety initiative, ALERT for inmate notifications, Responsible Fatherhood Initiative, and a Community Service Program that saved over $3.8 million in labor costs. Earlier roles include Environmental Police Investigator and Investigator for the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office.

In the Senate, Moore has chaired the Joint Committee on Community Development and Small Businesses, Bonding, Capital Expenditures and State Assets Committee, and Cyber Security Readiness Committee; served as Vice Chair of Elder Affairs; and been a member of Ways and Means, Post Audit and Oversight, and others. Notable achievements include legislation protecting small businesses, elder affairs advocacy, public safety enhancements, healthcare access expansion, protecting abuse survivors, and banning toxic chemicals from firefighter gear; awards include 2015 Massachusetts State Police Commissioned Officers Association recognition and 2014 New England Police Benevolent Association Legislator of the Year. He serves on boards like the Massachusetts Workforce Investment Board and Worcester Community Action Council.
