Biography
Mike Hilgers
Michael Hilgers Sr. was born on October 25, 1978, in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a Republican politician, businessman, and lawyer who currently serves as Nebraska's 33rd Attorney General, a position he has held since 2023.
Before his election as Attorney General, Hilgers built a successful career in law and business. He founded Hilgers Graben, a litigation law firm that grew from a solo practice into one of the fastest-growing law firms in the country, eventually employing over 100 professionals and handling cases nationwide. The firm was named to Inc. magazine's 5000 fastest-growing companies list three times.
Education
Hilgers earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Baylor University . He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School, where he served as an editor of the law review. After law school, he clerked for Judge Edith Brown Clement on the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit.
Political Experience
Hilgers served in the Nebraska Legislature representing District 21 from 2017 to 2023. During his legislative tenure, he held several leadership positions, including Chair of the Rules Committee, Chair of the Executive Board of the Legislative Council, and Speaker of the Nebraska Legislature from 2021 to 2023.
In the Legislature, he introduced and passed legislation focused on protecting constitutional rights, protecting Nebraska's water resources, and supporting law enforcement. In 2022, he was elected Nebraska Attorney General, winning with 434,671 votes. As Attorney General, his stated priorities include keeping Nebraskans safe, protecting constitutional rights, maintaining the integrity of constitutional structures, supporting law enforcement, and protecting natural resources and water supplies.
