Biography
Mike Anthony Gipson is a Democrat representing California's 65th Assembly District, which includes areas such as Watts, Willowbrook, Compton, Carson, North Long Beach, Harbor Gateway, Harbor City, Wilmington, and San Pedro in Los Angeles County. Elected to the California State Assembly in 2014, he previously served on the Carson City Council from 2005, including as Mayor Pro Tempore. Gipson is a member of the California Legislative Black Caucus and has held key leadership roles, including the longest-serving Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair under Speaker Emeritus Anthony Rendon and current Chair of the Revenue and Taxation Committee under Speaker Robert Rivas. He also chairs the Select Committee on Ports and Goods Movement and serves on numerous other committees, such as Governmental Organization, Insurance, and various select committees on issues like domestic violence, homelessness, and police reform.
