Biography
Mike Gallagher is a Republican politician and foreign policy advisor from Green Bay, Brown County, Wisconsin, born on March 3, 1984. He represented Wisconsin's 8th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2017 until his resignation in April 2024. A seventh-generation Wisconsinite, he lives with his wife Anne and daughters Grace and Rose. Notable achievements include serving as Chairman of the Select Committee on the Strategic Competition Between the United States and the Chinese Communist Party in the 118th Congress, Chairman of the House Armed Services Subcommittee on Cyber, Information Technologies, and Innovation, and membership on the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence. He also co-chaired the Cyberspace Solarium Commission from 2019-2021 and faced Chinese sanctions in May 2024 for alleged interference in China's internal affairs.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a B.A. from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs ; M.A. in Security Studies from Georgetown University; M.A. in Strategic Intelligence from National Intelligence University; Ph.D. in International Relations from Georgetown University.
- Political Experience: Served seven years on active duty in the United States Marine Corps, including two deployments to Iraq; lead Republican staffer for the Middle East and Counterterrorism on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee; worked in the private sector at an energy and supply chain management company in Green Bay; elected to four terms in the House , focusing on national security, cybersecurity, and opposition to the Affordable Care Act.
