Biography
Senator Michael Dwyer
Michael A. Dwyer was born on June 13, 1952, in Williston, North Dakota. He is a Republican politician currently serving in the North Dakota Senate representing District 47. Beyond his legislative role, Dwyer works as an attorney and farmer. He is married to Patricia and has six children and sixteen grandchildren. Dwyer has been actively involved in his community through coaching basketball for 32 seasons, including 27 varsity seasons at Shiloh Christian School, and serves on the boards of Riverstone Church and Global Awakening.
Education
Dwyer earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Olaf College and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota School of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar Association of North Dakota in 1977.
Political Experience
Dwyer was elected to the North Dakota Senate in November 2018 and assumed office on December 1, 2018, succeeding Ralph Kilzer. He currently serves as vice chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee, a position he has held since 2019. Prior to his legislative service, he was a partner in the Dwyer Law Office and owned Dwyer Farms. He also served as executive director and retired executive of multiple water organizations, including the North Dakota Water Education Foundation.
