Biography
Mike Dunleavy, a Republican, is the 12th Governor of Alaska, elected in 2018 and re-elected in 2022—the first Republican governor in the state to win re-election since 1978. Born on May 5, 1961, in Scranton, Pennsylvania, he moved to Alaska in 1983, starting with work in a logging camp before pursuing a career in education. He previously represented District E in the Alaska State Senate from 2013 to 2018. Notable achievements include nearly two decades as a teacher, principal, and superintendent in rural northwest Arctic communities; serving as Mat-Su Borough School Board President; and prioritizing economic growth and jobs during challenges like natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic.
