Biography
Mike Crawford is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives representing the 31st district, elected in November 2024 and sworn in on January 8, 2025. Born in 1982 and raised in Chicago, he graduated from Lane Technical High School and lives in the Wrightwood neighborhood on the South Side with his wife, Joy’Ecstacy, and their twins. A postsecondary educator and administrator, Crawford previously served at The Chicago School, City Colleges of Chicago, Chicago State University, and Northern Illinois University; he is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and 100 Black Men of Chicago.
Notable achievements include sponsoring key legislation in his first session on education, child welfare, and student rights, such as HB 2907 , HB 3258 , and co-sponsoring Senate Bills 407 and 408 . In 2025, he was selected for the Bowhay Institute for Legislative Leadership Development . He serves on committees including Adoption & Child Welfare, Appropriations-Higher Education, Health Care Availability & Access, Gun Violence Prevention, Restorative Justice & Public Safety, and State Government Administration.
