Biography
James Michael "Mike" Clampitt was a Republican who represented North Carolina House District 119, covering portions of Haywood, Jackson, Swain, and Transylvania counties. A resident of Bryson City, he was known for advocating rural community issues and public service. He served from 2017 to 2019 and 2021 until his death from leukemia at age 71. Notable achievements include a 90% rating from the NC Values Coalition in 2018, cosponsoring Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper's budget as one of few Republicans, and sponsoring a bill to lower NC's legal alcohol limit to 0.05%.
