Mike Bousselot is a Republican State Senator representing District 21 in the Iowa Senate.

Born on November 2, 1982, in Rock Island, Illinois, Senator Bousselot was raised in Davenport, Iowa, where both parents worked for John Deere after coming from farm families. He resides in Ankeny with his wife, Holly Bousselot, also an attorney. A business owner and attorney, he owns land and real estate businesses following careers in law, agriculture, and financial services. Notable achievements include serving as chief of staff to former Governor Terry Branstad, and as Budget Director and Director of the Iowa Department of Management under Governor Kim Reynolds. He serves on the Iowa Sports Foundation Board of Directors , co-founded Professionals for Charity, and is an active member of St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church in Ankeny. In the Senate, he chairs the Commerce Committee, serves as Vice Chair of the Transportation, Infrastructure, and Capitals Appropriations Subcommittee, and sits on Administrative Rules Review, Appropriations, Judiciary, and Ways and Means committees.

Education and Political Experience

Bousselot graduated from Davenport Central High School, earned undergraduate and master’s degrees in accounting from the University of Iowa, and received his law degree from Drake University Law School. After law school, he worked at Deloitte and Touche before moving to Des Moines. His political career began with election to Iowa House District 37 in a 2021 special election, serving one term, followed by election to the Iowa Senate District 21, where he is in his first term .
