Biography

Michelle Jane Beckley is a Democrat who served as the representative for Texas House District 65, covering parts of southern Denton County, from January 2019 to January 2023. She flipped the traditionally Republican seat by defeating three-term incumbent Ron Simmons in 2018 and did not seek reelection in 2022, instead running for Lieutenant Governor of Texas. Notable achievements include authoring and co-authoring bills on LGBTQ equality, public health, and women's reproductive health during the 86th legislative session; she is also known for advocating marijuana legalization, abortion rights, gun control, Medicaid expansion, power grid improvements, and full public education funding.
