Michelle Hsiao Au is a Democratic member of the Georgia House of Representatives, representing District 50 since 2023. She previously served in the Georgia State Senate for District 48 from 2021 to 2023, becoming the first Asian American woman and first Chinese American elected to that body. An anesthesiologist and equity partner at Physician Specialists in Anesthesia in Atlanta, Au is a second-generation Chinese American, daughter of immigrants who arrived in the U.S. in the 1960s. A New York City native, she moved to Georgia in 2008 with her husband and raised three children there. She authored the medical memoir *This Won't Hurt a Bit * in 2011.

Notable achievements include sponsoring or co-sponsoring over 200 bills in her Senate freshman term on healthcare access, voting rights, law enforcement reform, education, and non-English language services; blocking anti-abortion legislation as the only pro-choice Democratic physician in the General Assembly; advancing gun safety measures; and receiving awards such as 2022 State Legislator of the Year from Everytown/Moms Demand Action and the Georgia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the 2023 EMILYs List Gabriel Giffords Rising Star Award nomination, and the 2025 American Medical Association Award for Outstanding Government Service.

• Education: Attended P.S. 116 and Hunter College High School in Manhattan; B.A. in Psychobiology, magna cum laude, from Wellesley College; M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons; advanced degree in public health.
• Political Experience: Elected to Georgia State Senate amid 2021 redistricting that prompted her shift to House District 50; currently serving in Georgia House of Representatives , focusing on healthcare access, public health communication, social equity, reproductive rights, mental health, and substance abuse prevention.
