Biography
Micheal Bergstrom is a Republican state senator representing District 1 in the Oklahoma Senate, encompassing the northeast corner of the state including Craig, Delaware, Rogers, Mayes, and Ottawa counties. Elected in 2016 and serving continuously since, he resides in Adair, Oklahoma, with his wife Robin; they have four children and 14 grandchildren. Born May 5, 1958, Bergstrom is a legislator and educator by occupation, actively involved in Bethlehem Lutheran Church as an elder and former chairman of the Church Council.
Notable achievements include authoring landmark bills protecting girls' sports and defending traditional values. He has received annual awards from the Oklahoma Second Amendment Association , the Oklahoma Legislative Award from the Oklahoma Sheriff's Association , the Oklahoma Farm Bureau 100% award, and top awards from the Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association.
He currently serves as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Retirement and Government Resources, and is involved with committees on Administrative Rules, Aeronautics and Transportation, and the Joint Legislative Task Force on the Grand River Dam Authority.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: B.A. in English from the University of South Florida; graduate studies at Northeastern State University. Teaching certifications in world and American history, U.S. government, economics, high school English, and yearbook.
- Professional Background: Over 10 years in journalism as a reporter, editor, and freelance writer; nearly 20 years in public education, including 18-19 years as an English teacher and yearbook advisor at Bluejacket Public Schools.
- Political Experience: Oklahoma State Senate, District 1 , 2016–present.
