Biography
Michaelle "Mickey" C. Solages is a Democratic Assembly Member representing New York's 22nd Assembly District, which includes communities such as Valley Stream, North Valley Stream, Elmont, South Valley Stream, South Floral Park, Floral Park, Bellerose, Bellerose Terrace, North Woodmere, Stewart Manor, and parts of Franklin Square. A lifelong resident of Elmont born on March 25, 1985, she is the first person of Haitian descent elected to the New York State Legislature. She serves as Assembly Deputy Majority Leader and Chair of the New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, and Asian Legislative Caucus. Notable achievements include advocacy for childcare safety , early learning education, immigrant communities, property tax relief, equitable school funding, and public transportation on Long Island. She entered politics supporting her brother Carrié Solages' campaign and was elected in 2012 at age 27, becoming a fifth-term legislator.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Earned a Bachelor's Degree from Hofstra University's School of Education, Health, and Human Services; later served as supervisor of access services at Hofstra's Axinn Library, contributing to its modernization.
- Political Experience: Elected to the New York State Assembly in 2012 ; previously no elected office experience; selected as a New York State fellow at the 2014 National Conference of State Legislatures for early education advocacy; resides in Elmont with her husband Nikolas and children Nick Jr. and Rose.
