Biography

Michael George Glen Waltz is a Republican politician, diplomat, retired Army colonel, and former Special Forces officer. He currently serves as the 32nd United States Ambassador to the United Nations, confirmed by the Senate in September 2025. Previously, he represented Florida's 6th congressional district in the U.S. House from 2019 to 2025 and was the 29th National Security Advisor from January to May 2025. Notable achievements include over 27 years of military service with four Bronze Stars , founding Metis Solutions , authoring Warrior Diplomat, and being the first Green Beret elected to Congress.

Education

Waltz graduated from the Virginia Military Institute with honors. He was commissioned as an Army lieutenant, completed Ranger School, and served as a Special Forces officer with deployments to Afghanistan, the Middle East, and Africa.

Political Experience

Waltz served on the House Armed Services Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, and Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence during his congressional tenure. He worked as a policy director for Defense Secretaries Donald Rumsfeld and Robert Gates, and as a counterterrorism advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney in the Bush administration. Nominated by President Trump as National Security Advisor in 2024, he resigned his House seat in January 2025; he was removed in May 2025 amid the "Signalgate" scandal and reassigned as UN Ambassador, where he pledged UN reforms.
