Biography
Michael Kelly is a Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives representing the 15th district since his appointment on November 23, 2021. The district covers parts of Glenview, Morton Grove, Niles, Park Ridge, and Skokie, along with Chicago neighborhoods including Albany Park, Forest Glen, Irving Park, Jefferson Park, North Park, and Norwood Park. A Chicago firefighter with 18 years in Chicago Fire Department Local 2, he previously coached basketball, softball, and football at Saint Edward Elementary School starting in 1999 and served as its Athletic Director from 2006; he also sits on the Mayfair Park Advisory Council and Saint Patrick High School Advisory Council. Notable achievements include winning the 2022 Democratic primary and general election , serving on committees like Cities & Villages, Police & Fire, and Transportation: Vehicles & Safety, and contributing to public safety legislation and Illinois' sixth consecutive balanced budget in 2024.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Saint Edward Elementary School and Saint Patrick High School in Chicago; earned a degree in business management from Quincy University.
- Political Experience: Appointed to replace retiring Rep. John C. D'Amico in 2021; won election in 2022; current term ends January 8, 2025, and ran for re-election in the March 19, 2024 Democratic primary. Active in the 104th General Assembly with focus on public safety, balanced budgets, community safety, job opportunities, and protecting women's healthcare.
