Biography

Michael A. Jackson is a Democratic member of the Maryland State Senate representing District 27, which includes Calvert, Charles, and Prince George's counties. A former sheriff of Prince George's County , he is noted for establishing the state's first 24-hour domestic violence unit and receiving awards such as the 2007 Maryland Network Against Domestic Violence Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and the 2008 Victims' Rights Caucus Award.

Education and Political Experience

  • Military Service: Served in the U.S. Marine Corps, inspiring his public service career.
  • Law Enforcement Career: Rose through the ranks in the Prince George's County Sheriff's Office, becoming sheriff in 2002 after defeating the incumbent; served two terms until 2010 and was President of the Maryland Sheriffs' Association.
