Michael "Mike" N. Gianaris is a Democratic and Working Families Party member representing District 12 in the New York State Senate, covering neighborhoods in western Queens including Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, Woodside, Ridgewood, and Woodhaven. Born on April 23, 1970, in Astoria, New York, to immigrant parents, he was raised in the community he now serves and is a product of New York City public schools. He resides in Astoria and is Greek Orthodox. Notable achievements include serving as Deputy Majority Leader since 2019, advocating for tenant protections to promote family stability, and leadership roles such as Chair of the Commission on Administrative Regulations Review. He has been recognized as a 2025 New York State Senate Veterans' Hall of Fame Honoree and 2025 Women of Distinction Honoree.
