Representative Melissa Oremus

Melissa Lackey Oremus is a Republican state representative serving District 84 in Aiken County, South Carolina. Born on November 17, 1978, in Aiken, she is the daughter of Danny L. Lackey and Patricia T. Welborn. Oremus is a small business owner and a wife and mother of three children: Brooke Ashton, Jenna Carson, and Jacob Preston. She married James T. Oremus on October 29, 2005.

As a concealed carry permit holder and NRA member, Oremus is a strong advocate for Second Amendment rights. She is also a member of Christian Heritage Church and the Aiken Mid-Day Lions.

Education

Oremus earned a B.S. from the University of South Carolina-Aiken in 2001 and an M.S.M. from Southern Wesleyan in 2008.

Political Experience

Oremus currently serves on the Labor, Commerce and Industry Committee. Prior to her state legislative service, she served on the Mead Hall School Board from 2010 to 2017 and the WSA Development Committee from 2001 to 2013. Her legislative focus emphasizes economic growth and job creation in her district.
