Biography
Melanie F. Sachs is a Democratic state representative serving House District 102 in Maine, representing Freeport and part of Pownal in Cumberland County. She has served since 2020 and is currently in her third term , chair of the Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee. A licensed clinical social worker for over 25 years specializing in health and mental health, she previously led Freeport Community Services as executive director and Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine. Notable local service includes six years on the Freeport Town Council, where she served twice as chair and once as vice-chair, and chairing the 2019 Freeport Working Group to Welcome New Mainers. She is married to Andrew with two children and resides in Freeport.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Graduated from Mt. Blue High School in Farmington; BA in Political Science from Bates College ; Master of Science in Social Administration from Case Western Reserve University .
- Political Experience: Elected to Maine House of Representatives in 2020, succeeding Sara Gideon; re-elected for subsequent terms; House Chair, Energy, Utilities and Technology Committee, overseeing energy policy, utilities, telecommunications, and related areas. Prior: Freeport Town Council .
