Biography
Melanie Ross Levin is a Democratic member of the Delaware House of Representatives, representing District 10 since 2024. She succeeded retiring Representative Sean Matthews after defeating Republican Brent Burdge in the general election with over 60% of the vote. Previously, she served as Director of Delaware's State Office of Women's Advancement and Advocacy, where she championed key achievements including Paid Family and Medical Leave, the nation's best paid parental leave for state workers, raising the minimum wage, the first U.S. ban on child marriage, advancing the Equal Rights Amendment, expanding Medicaid for pregnant women, protecting pregnant workers, and providing menstrual hygiene products in schools and prisons. She also led initiatives adding 17 lactation rooms and 50 changing tables statewide, implemented the first LGBTQ action plan for state employees, hosted a major art exhibit of 170 Delaware women's portraits, trained over 700 women in salary negotiation since 2017, and is building Delaware's first educational Holocaust memorial in Dover with her daughter Elliana. Earlier, as Director of Engagement and Mobilization at the National Women's Law Center, she led campaigns for Social Security protection, pay equity, Title IX athletics, early childhood education, and the national coalition for the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act.
Education and Political Experience
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Women’s Studies and Master’s Degree in Public Administration, both from the University of Delaware.
- Political Experience: Elected to Delaware House of Representatives , serving on committees including Economic Development/Banking/Insurance & Commerce, Education, Health & Human Development, Labor, Joint Legislative Oversight and Sunset, and Veterans Affairs. Prior roles focused on women's advocacy at state and national levels.
