Biography
Representative Melanie Morgan is a Democrat representing Washington's 29th Legislative District , which includes South and East Tacoma, Parkland, parts of Spanaway, and East Lakewood. She serves as a strong advocate for underrepresented communities, equity, diversity, and inclusion, using these lenses in policy-making to address community impacts. Notable achievements include championing the CROWN Act to eliminate natural hair-based discrimination, advancing housing legislation as a long-time advocate since 1997 , and serving on the Community Healthcare board while acting as a domestic violence and sexual assault advocate. She currently holds committee roles as Vice Chair of Agriculture & Natural Resources, and member of Capital Budget, Consumer Protection & Business, and Rules committees. Previously elected as Deputy Majority Floor Leader, she prioritizes housing solutions, equity offices, and community needs.
Education and Political Experience
Morgan graduated from St. Martin’s University . Her public service began early, volunteering with the Red Cross at age 16 overseas, followed by military service and leadership on the Franklin Pierce School Board before election to the Washington State House of Representatives. She resides in Spanaway and continues advocating for an anti-racist, equitable Washington.
